When I Recover

By: Bedor Alobaidi

When I recover, I may desire to soar.

When I recover, I may yearn for an extended slumber.

When I recover, I may seek to hear the echoes of my name within your heart.

When I recover, I may want to fly. And when I do, the exhilaration of soaring will illuminate me.

When I recover, I will dance again, with the stars as my spotlight and the moon as my beloved partner.

When I recover, I will no longer contain my tears, but share them with whoever crosses my path. Perhaps someone else is struggling to cry and needs a helping hand, or someone wishes to join and share their sorrow, to alleviate their pain and rediscover themselves by giving it a good cry.

When I recover, I will dedicate all my time to never looking back at those who caused my losses.

When I recover, I will once again grasp the true meaning of life. For now, all I can do is smile when I see you, because your smile and soothing voice restore my hope.

Your smile acts as medicine, calming my nervous system in a way I haven't felt in ages.

When I recover, I will rediscover myself. I know the indescribable feeling of finding myself again, especially for those who have known me intimately and on a deeper level, or at least I hope they have!

When I recover, I will sing love songs dedicated to all those who struggle to heal easily, but can do so through love.

When I recover, I will make a point not to dwell on old photographs that bring sadness or tears. If the memories are harmful to revisit, the tears shed while looking at photos of a loved one who is no longer with me should no longer cause me pain, but rather serve as a source of strength and determination to continue living in their memory. I will create new memories along the way, while still cherishing and remembering them, knowing that somehow they see and hear me from heaven. I will feel their presence all around me, and they can sense my warmth through the essence of my soul.

When I recover, I know for certain that my way of speaking will change from when I was in pain.

When I recover, I will acknowledge and express gratitude to everyone who has aided me in my healing journey ❤️‍🩹, including the person who inspired me to write this. I will be grateful because without them, my healing would not have progressed as far as it has.

And once I recover, I will never cease writing.

So, help me recover to write my story all over again from the beginning.

Because, it will feel different when you share a story of your own struggles and wins written by a healed version of yourself.
